Trap Turkey Shoot March 24

The sun came out and the trap guns showed up for our second Trap Turkey shoot of 2019. We had shooters from Kelowna, Rock Creek and Salmon Arm in attendance. 23 prizes were handed out. Last months big winner, Steve Coutts got off to a slower start Sunday, but managed to get his eye on the target and head home with some prizes and a smile on his face.
These shoots are a fun and relaxed way to test your shooting skills and meet new members of the COSS Club as well as participants from other shotgun shooting clubs in the Okanagan area. If you are new to trap shooting we will gladly introduce you to how the shoots work and get you off to a good, fun start. Once initiated, you’ll find that we can participate in similar shoots at nearby clubs, as our members frequently travel to these other clubs to participate in their events.
Thanks to all who came out to enjoy the fun. Our next Trap Turkey Shoot will be March 24. This will be our last Turkey Shoot until November. We will be shooting trap and skeet regularly on Saturdays and will add shoot days as it warms up in Kelowna. Check out our calendar as we add shooting days and in the meantime, if you have any questions about our club or events, please email or call for more information.
Saturday – Sunday April 20 & 21, 2019
Langley Rod & Gun Club, 3854 – 208th Street Langley, British Columbia, Canada V3A 4X7
Instructor: Bob LaRue
NSSA Level III Instructor
NSSA Zone Instructor (Canada)
Level I courses are conducted by Zone Instructors, who are Level III and Masters. Zone Instructors are appointed by the Chief Instructor based upon need.
Prerequisites for attendance are:
There must be at least three students for the class to occur. The cost is $300 plus shooting expenses. Student instructors will learn teaching techniques, the system for bringing on beginners, and fundamentals of skeet shooting.
The Zone Instructors can travel anywhere in their zone, with the students paying for the instructor’s travel expenses.
Associate Instructor classes are for those who do not have a “C” class in any gun. The courses will be the same as a Level I Course, with the same materials and will be taught by a Zone Instructor. The cost is $300. Associates will not be listed on the website. The primary purpose of the Associate Instructor Program is to promote youth shooting in a safe, conscientious manner, while providing the sound fundamentals of skeet shooting. These credentials are for teaching youth and not for profit. Must be 18 years of age. The first year of membership with the NSSA is free under the Complimentary Limited Membership (CLM) program. Once a “C” class is acquired and the Chief Instructor is informed, a Level I patch and certificate will be sent for $25.00, and that person’s name will be added to NSSA website. (Must shoot a minimum of 300 NSSA registered targets, or five events, to establish a “C” classification, no exceptions.)

Bob LaRue of Kelowna, BC and president of the Central Okanagan Shotgun Sports Club (COSSC), returned this fall from Texas where he compiled an amazing record competing against the best skeet shooters in the world! Bob won a number of medals including the world “senior” Class High Over All Champion and the world “AA” Class High Over All Champion. Eight of Bob’s medals are shown with two more to come! Bob was interviewed at the COSSC location upon his return by Global BC News where a demonstration of Mr. LaRue’s skeet shooting skills was aptly made for the television crew!

Here’s a great article in the Cap News about Bob

We had all hands on deck building the walkways in order to complete our first trap field in August of 2018. Our second trap field as well as a new skeet field is scheduled for summer 2019.

The Central Okanagan Shotgun Sports Club is the newest shotgun shooting club in British Columbia! This new property is 60 acres and will eventually have 5 Traps, 2 Skeet fields, a 5 Stand layout and 10 Sporting Clay stations. All of this has already been given approval for shooting by the Chief Range Inspector. The first year was spent clearing the land and getting the skeet houses and 1 trap house built and we can shoot either one of these venues now. This summer we will be completing our second Trap field as well as our second Skeet Field. The club will be work in progress for a long time as money, people and equipment is needed to keep moving forward.
