Learn To Shoot – Kelowna Instructors

We welcome new members from the Kelowna area who would like to learn to shoot. Our current shooters have many years of experience and awards and will gladly introduce you to Skeet and Trap shooting.

If you would like to participate in more advance instruction we can help you there as well.

Club Chair, Bob LaRue is a NSSA Certified Level III Skeet Instructor, the only NSSA Level III instructor in the world outside of the United States. This qualifies Bob to teach all skeet skill levels including advanced shooters. Greg Burgess, our COSSC vice-chair is a top Western Canadian skeet shooter with doubles and class championships. Greg is a NSSA Certified Instructor as well at Level II Skeet, only one of three Level II Instructors in Canada. Bryan Stapleton is a COSSC member and our newest instructor, NSSA certified Level 1 in 2022. He has years of shooting experience spring & summer in the Okanagan and winters at Yuma Trap and Skeet Club in Arizona. Bryan enjoys teaching beginner and novice students. Pat Bare, our Secretary/Treasurer is dedicated to responsible safety training, and specializes in all aspects of firearms for beginner to advanced students. Pat offers personal one on one instructions, classroom instruction such as the CORE program and Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) which prepares people for getting their Possession and Acquisition Licenses (PAL) for Non-Restricted and Restricted Firearms. Class size is limited to eight students to ensure that you get the attention and hands on practice you need to pass the tests. Duncan Kowk is a director of Central Okanagan Shotgun Sporting Club and has been involved in shooting , hunting and outdoor activities most of his life. Like many of our COSSC members, Duncan is actively involved with the construction of the new trap and skeet range. With Pat Bare’s mentorship, Duncan became a CORE instructor/examiner in 2017 and teaches classes throughout the year.
